Weekly Photo Challenge: Eerie

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

Eerie; a photo doesn’t have to be blatantly macabre to be eerie. But it can have a mysterious, otherworldly vibe — the viewer wonders what lurks in the shadows. Something eerie has a story to tell — one you aren’t quite sure you want to know.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sea

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

The sea

Port Fairy East Beach

“The road that is built in hope is more pleasant to the traveler than the road built in despair,
even though they both lead to the same destination.”

~ Marion Zimmer Bradley ~

Whatever the ocean once meant to me – relaxation, inspiration, joy – after a suicide attempt in 2006, it now means only hope. For I doubt I would be here today were it not for the emotional intervention this wide expanse of ocean provided one dark and lonely night.

Focus

Blue Tongued Lizard

“My wife is a lovely leathery green, the blue-tongued lizard said;
Her eyes are as red as bulldog ants, lurking in holes in her head;
Her body is made of the speckled grass, a violet grows on her tongue,
And I could watch her for fifty years if nobody blundered along.

Weekly Photo Challenge: My Neighbourhood

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

To kick this off, grab your phone and head out the door. That’s right — get on your feet and go outside to explore — and document — where you live. I want to see your neighborhood: The path you take for your daily morning run. Your local coffee shop or dive bar. The nearby alley of street and community art. A shot of the intersection that perfectly captures the bustle of your own corner of town. Or a serene landscape view of your village.

Regular readers of my blog will know that I live in abject poverty so it’s hard for me to afford food, let alone swanky mobile phones with cameras. Therefore, for this week’s challenge, I’m sharing my neighbourhood of old; the town where young Addy used to rampage around the streets being all cheeky, happy and a wee bit naughty.

This is Portlethen…and don’t worry if you’ve never heard of it, few people ever have! ;)

Portlethen

My old street; My old house; The ‘no ball games’ sign we used to completely ignore; The town hall (and site of my first school disco); My old primary school; The church I once won a competition painting a picture of…inspirational, isn’t it! :p

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing Seasons

This week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is:

CHANGING SEASONS

~ January 2002 ~

In January 2002, I was living in Inverness with my partner Louise. The days were short (five hours of daylight if we were lucky), cold (regularly dropping below zero) and beautiful (winter is my favourite season). To get us through the season we adopted a combination of snuggling under the duvet, snuggling under a blanket and snuggling under a duvet and blanket at the same time.

Given that so much snuggling often led to so much of something else, it’s not so hard to understand why days like below excited me so ;)

~ January 2003 ~

In January 2003, I was living in Melbourne with my partner Louise. The days were long (five hours of darkness if we were lucky), hot (regularly hitting the high thirties) and stifling (summer is my least favourite season). To get us through the season we adopted a combination of stripping to our swimwear, stripping to our birthday suits and stripping to our swimwear then birthday suits.

Given that so much stripping often led to so much of something else, it’s not so hard to understand why days like below excited me so ;)

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflections (II)

I don’t usually submit two entries into the challenge, but whilst perusing my media files this morning I came across a photograph I took several years ago that I had thought lost to the sands of time (and homelessness).

Whilst visiting Phillip Island in 2004 with my parent’s and girlfriend I had grown bored of standard landscape shots and decided to experiment with a new take on the spectacular coastline of this most beautiful of islands.
