World Hearing Voices Day: A few of Audrey’s favourite things…

To celebrate World Hearing Voice’s Day, I asked each of my voices whether or not they’d like to write a post themed around ‘a few of my favourite things’. I didn’t stipulate how they should interpret this as I wanted the post to be in their own voice.

I’m aware that allowing my people to write their own posts will be confronting to many, but World Hearing Voices Day is about celebrating hearing voices as part of the diversity of human experience, and including my people is how I’ve chosen to start some conversations today, so feel free to ask myself (or Audrey) any questions in the comments field below.

Note: The reason this post is a couple of days late of World Hearing Voice’s Day is because, after writing it, Audrey was not entirely happy with how it turned out so requested it not be published. Since then, she has been feeling guilty that she is the only one of my primary voices who didn’t share something so asked for it to be published regardless.

A few of my favourite things…in Lego!

by Audrey

veryhungrycaterpillar

As you can probably tell from this post, one of my favourite things is Lego. So much so that I tried to theme this post around this most wonderful of creations.

As for some of my other favourite things, first and foremost there is Lego Batman, which regular readers of this blog are already aware of.

My second greatest passion after this most swoon-worthy of superheroes is books; reading them, holding them, smelling them, doing everything I possibly can to them. And not those annoying eBooks, but proper made from paper, sweat and tears books!

I’ll be honest, the picture I chose to illustrate this particular passion isn’t quite what I’d wanted. Although I have nothing against this children’s book, my love lies elsewhere, namely in the realms of historical and contemporary literature, but this was the only example of a book constructed out of Lego that I could find, so bear in mind that it is illustrative of my love of books rather than very hungry caterpillars!

For the record, in case anyone is interested, some of my favourite books are: Far from the Madding Crowd, The Broom of the System, Special Topics in Calamity Physics, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Tree of Man, David Peace’s Red Riding Quartet and Dante‘s Inferno (which is illustrated in the slide show at the bottom of this post).

Moving away from books and Lego Batman (just so you’re aware, a book about Lego Batman would be the kissquite possibly the most magnificent thing in creation!) my heart lies in art.

I cherish the work of the Renaissance and Impressionist painters but care not a jot for what many people call ‘contemporary art’. I also have an appreciation for Aboriginal art, including painting and sand-painting images in this style myself.

In fact, adorning a wall in Andrew’s lounge room is a mighty platypus that I painted a few short months ago.

The remainder of my favourite things are quite common and altogether rather tame compared to my companion’s posts. However much I appreciate the female form, I wouldn’t dream of posting such images as Shay did and however much I enjoy berating Andrew from time to time, I wouldn’t upset him by rubbing it in the faces of those he writes for. No, if you set aside art, books, and Lego Batman, my soul sings whenever I am outdoors; walking along the banks of a river, watching birds swoop through the sky or simply basking in the sunshine in the middle of a flower covered meadow.

Alas, there are few meadows nearby, so I’ve had to make do with regular trips to a public park that has a quite inspiring lake, populated by some quite evil little ducks. Birds that definitely make the list of my favourite things!

World Hearing Voices Day: A few of Shay’s favourite things…

This is a sequel to what I consider to be his greatest post. Why he wastes his time writing ream after ream of self-analysing jargon instead of simply posting images of the female body is beyond me. Hell, he’d get more readers if he did!

So I guess it’s up to me to ask this time, butt is it art or porn?

Note: Due to the presence of partial nudity (i.e. NSFW artistic images of the female posterior) Shay has put in his post, I’ve added the ‘read more’ tag in order to protect any innocent or simply not wishing to look eyes. To view the remainder of his post, simply click the link below…

favouritethings

(Sung to the tune of ‘My Favorite Things’ from ‘The Sound of Music’)

Musical Theatre and The Dark is Rising
Bitching, belittling and chastising
I love to abuse Andrew and pull his strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cheesy Rom-Coms and things Harry Potter
Reminding Andrew he was a squatter
Saying things that I know really stings
These are a few of my favorite things

Shouting and screaming and yelling quite loud
Anything that hurts him makes me feel proud
If I were a bird I’d beat him with my wings
These are a few of my favorite things

When the bug bites
When the wasp stings
When I’m feeling mad
I just remind him of my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is a photograph of a few of my favourite things. There is a Disney Fairies colouring book that Andrew’s support worker gave me as a present. I’ve left the book open on a page showing Silvermist, as she is a Disney Fairy who looks like me. As you can see there are lots and lots of colouring pencils and oil pastels that Andrew brought for me because he knows I like to draw and paint and colour things in with lots of bright bright colours. The wooden spoons are there because wood is awesome and I’m always pestering Andrew to eat lots of healthy salads which he serves up with the wooden spoons, so when he does that it makes me happy. The big purple ball with googly eyes is a ball that I lurve that we use in Andrew’s Creative Therapy group. Andrew got it for me after we watched Despicable Me because he knows I love screaming it’s so fluff-y! like the girl does in that film. There are also two plastic dinosaurs because dinosaurs are awesome! There is also a little green fluffy dinosaur that roars and vibrates when you pull its cord which is the greatest thing that has ever existed! I love it when Andrew reads me Roald Dahl, so there is a Roald Dahl book I love which has lots of awesome coloured pictures in it and there are DVDs of Monsters Inc because I love Boo and How to Train Your Dragon because I love Toothless. There is also the Zelda game Twilight Princess because it is great fun and makes Andrew happy, which is something that is my favourite thing. To top it all off is a map of Westeros because Dragon Mummy is awesome, a hairbrush that is the colour of my hair, two little ornaments which was a present from one of Andrew’s friends to me and Cheeky Naughty Monkey (Ceenem for short) who is my monkey. I hope you think they’re all as awesome as I do! Thank you.

9 Loves…

Anyone who’s read more than a few posts of this blog knows I love writing, photography, creating, challenging perceptions, advocating for change, Doctor Who, reading, movies, lots of kinky things and jam.

But how many times can I write about these things without getting boring? Aren’t there any other things I love? Of course there are…

1. Hairy Coos (aka Highland Cows)

If you’ve never been to Scotland, shame on you! If you’ve been to Scotland and never saw a Hairy Coo, to the Headmaster’s Office with you! If you’ve been to Scotland and seen a Hairy Coo, you’ll understand why I love them as much as I do.

Cute, intelligent, orange, gigantic horns…what more could you want in an animal?

2. Body painting

One of my favourite memories is spending hours body painting my girlfriend. After practising with painting a bra over her breasts I turned my attention to her back and buttocks whereon I created an abstract masterpiece of colour and contour. Think Jackson Pollock meets Patrick Butcher meets Richard Bell; only with bare flesh as a canvas.

I long for the day to be able to indulge in this art form again. So…any volunteers? ;)

3. Omelette sandwiches

Just so we’re clear – I was making omelette sandwiches approximately eighteen years before Subway starting selling them as part of their breakfast menu. If I ever decide to treat myself for breakfast at this fast food outlet my order is always the same: Italian Herbs and cheese bread; omelette; double old english cheese; salt and pepper; a dash of bbq sauce; fresh, not toasted. Mmmm, hungry now :p

4. Dressing Up (aka Cosplay)

Previous dress ups include: Superman, a pirate, Lando Calrissian and Killer Bob.

Future dress ups will hopefully include: Indiana Jones, Link, Spider-Man and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man (with a group of Ghostbusters, of course!)

5. Kissing in the rain!

Seriously, I need to explain this one? I’d do it all day if pneumonia (and social isolation) weren’t an issue :)

6. Red and Purple

I can’t differentiate between my two favourite colours as I love them both equally. Fortunately, these colours can crop up quite frequently in one of my favourite hobbies :p

7. Standing Stones

One of my favourite things about Scotland is the sheer number of standing stones that populate this great land. From Brodgar to Callanish via the Mull of Kintyre and the Clava Cairns, if there’s a stone circle, I’m there!

Hours upon hours of my life have been spent sitting within these powerful monuments, relishing the absolute tranquility of soul they provide.

8. Midna

My all-time favourite video game character and, like yesterday’s Lego Catwoman, someone I have developed rather a crush on.

If you have yet to discover her mischievous, is she pure evil or just a bit naughty, personality then I highly recommend you do. She can be found in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess; although I’m hoping she will take a starring role in any future Super Smash Bros installments as well a much-needed return to the land of Hyrule at some point.

9. Giving massages

I have serious issues with receiving massages courtesy of my anxiety. There’s nothing guaranteed to stress me out more than having a complete stranger fondle, manipulate, pound and crush my back for half an hour! If it’s not a complete stranger (i.e. a girlfriend or trusted friend) I love it. But nowhere near as much as I love giving them. All three of my girlfriends told me I gave fantastic massages (once I’d got to know their bodies a little) so I take some modest pride in that.

Much like body painting, I may be a bit rusty, but I’d love to indulge in this activity again…so, anyone in need of a massage? :)
