Teaser Tuesday: Far From A Still Life

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along with Teaser Tuesdays! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• Be careful not to include spoilers! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Given I’m reading a little more than I usually do, today I shall tease two of the books I’m currently enjoying; a fiction and a non-fiction.

My fiction teaser is a little lighter (and racier) than of late. It comes from Peepshow by Leigh Redhead, the first in a series of crime thrillers starring Simone Kirsch; full-time stripper, part-time PI.

Whereas my non-fiction teaser comes from Far From Still Life by Meg Stewart, a biography of renowned Australian artist Margaret Olley.

Teaser Tuesday: The Hanging Garden

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

• Open to a random page

My teaser for today is from The Hanging Garden, a previously unpublished novel from the Nobel Prize winning author Patrick White, a book I happened across on the ‘new stock’ shelf of the library last week and decided to read because (a) I enjoyed reading Voss, A Fringe of Leaves and The Eye of the Storm earlier this year and (b) it shares the name of one of my favourite films.

The Hanging Garden was begun and put aside in 1981 when White was lured away to write for the theatre. The unfinished novel was then found among his papers after his death in September 1990. It has been transcribed from White’s handwritten manuscript and, in the absence of a living author to consult, not edited.
