To this day I don’t know why I agreed to karaoke Pulp’s Common People that afternoon. Perhaps I was tired of all the anxiety that had been affecting me that day, perhaps I was running on adrenalin after several of the most fun hours of my life or perhaps I was just overly nervous of what was to follow. As it stands, I am eternally grateful for whatever it was that drove me to break out my best Jarvis Cocker impersonation for it was easily one of the best five minutes of my life.
Although it started out as a duet, due to a massive giggling fit that overwhelmed Samantha it soon became a solo effort, in fact I was surprised she was able to stay on two feet given how riotous her laughter was.
The way things are now, I don’t think I’d have the confidence to get on stage and sing unless there was at least three people besides me; but, however awful I actually was, I am insanely happy that for a brief few minutes I found the confidence to entertain everyone in the room with my caterwauling.
