All that I am, all that I ever was…

I am more than my mental health. I am more than my homelessness. I am more than any one aspect of me. I am Addy. And this is…

Friday Finds (March 15)

FRIDAY FINDS showcases the books you ‘found’ and added to your To Be Read (TBR) list. Whether you found them online, or in a bookstore, or in the library — wherever! (they aren’t necessarily books you purchased).

Part Time Perverts

Part Time Perverts: Sex, Pop Culture and Kink Management (Lauren Rosewarne)
“An interdisciplinary exploration of sexual perversion in everyday life. It examines representations of perversion – from suppression to dabbling to full-body immersion – and proposes a classification for perversion management, and charts the diverse strategies we use to manage, and perhaps enjoy, exposure.”

The Devil’s Metal (Karina Halle)
“The Devil’s Metal is the first book in a two-part New Adult Horror/Paranormal Romance and very (very!) loosely based on the author’s exploits as a music journalist. Hell comes in different forms.

The Flame Alphabet (Ben Marcus)
“A terrible epidemic has struck the country and the sound of children’s speech has become lethal.”

House of Holes (Nicholson Baker)
“Baker, the bestselling author of The Mezzanine, Vox, and The Fermata, returns to erotic territory with a gleefully over-the-top novel set in a pleasure resort, where normal rules don’t apply. Visitors, pulled in via their drinking straws or the dryers in laundromats, can undergo crotchal transfers . . . make love to trees . . . visit the Groanrooms and the twelve-screen Porndecahedron . . . or pussy-surf the White Lake. Brimful of good-nature, wit, and surreal sexual vocabulary, House of Holes is a modern-day Hieronymous Boschian bacchanal that is sure to surprise, amuse, and arouse.”

Transcend-horz

Transcend (Christine Fonseca)
“Set amidst the landscape of New York’s Gilded Age, and inspired by Phantom of the Opera, TRANSCEND exposes the fine line between love and madness.”

Splintered (A.G. Howard)
“This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence.”

Inside (Alix Ohlin)
“When Grace, an exceedingly competent and devoted therapist in Montreal, stumbles across a man who has just failed to hang himself, her instinct to help kicks in immediately. Before long, however, she realizes that her feelings for this charismatic, extremely guarded stranger are far from straightforward. With razor-sharp emotional intelligence, Inside poignantly explores the many dangers as well as the imperative of making ourselves available to—and responsible for—those dearest to us.”

The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia (Shigeru Miyamoto, Eiji Aonuma, Patrick Thorpe)
“Dark Horse Books and Nintendo team up to bring you The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, containing an unparalleled collection of historical information on The Legend of Zelda franchise. This handsome hardcover contains never-before-seen concept art, the full history of Hyrule, the official chronology of the games, and much more!”

  1. Addy, have you read the Perks Of Being A Wall Flower? It’s a very interesting story about mental health, fitting in, coming of age. I think it might resonate with you. I have noticed that the past few weeks, most of your posts have consisted of meme’s and questioners.

    • I haven’t read Perks of Being a Wall Flower, but it’s been on my reading list since I heard of the movie adaptation last year (which I would also like to see). I’ve heard good things about the movie but not so much about the book. Once I’ve gotten around to them, perhaps I’ll blog my opinion. :)

About the posts…I know, and it’s been bugging me for weeks. I have, only mere moments before seeing your comment, written a post about this very thing. I’ve been doing so much with social groups, counselling, support groups and support workers in an effort to push through the anxiety, trauma, negative thinking and isolation that I’m completely exhausting myself and leaving no time for in-depth blogging or anything else.

However, I hope to redress this inbalance over the coming week(s)! :)
