Teaser Tuesdays (May 28)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading Today we have two books; one fiction, one non-fiction…

Anyone can play along with Teaser Tuesdays! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

“Sex always depends on something stupid,” Kelly said, “like whether the guy’s got nice eyes, or whether he’s rich, or whether he pretends to be a good listener. Or it just depends on how much I’ve had to drink, or whether I can stand to go home alone. At least this way I’ll respect you. I always respect a man who can handle himself on the crazy golf course,”

from Female Ruins by Geoff Nicholson

“But the effectiveness of that technique depends great deal upon a reader’s associations with the food being named. To launch me directly into bliss, a waiter need only mention Haagan Dazs Chocolate Chip; but another diner, say, someone allergic to chocolate or someone who’s nursing a toothache, may react quite differently,”

from Word Painting: A Guide to Writing More Descriptively by Rebecca McClanahan
